At design school we used a hot wire to cut blue foam. Since then I've seen a lot of different ways to cut foam, but I'd never seen this one before. It appears to be a dual-wire CNC rig:

There are lots of differently-designed CNC hot wire machines. As a servo/motion control engineer I've had the chance to work on several. Check out Hotwire Direct (www.hotwiredirect.com) for some of these machines built especially for architectural uses.
